Cedar Bluff Makes Changes To Fire Department

The Town of Cedar Bluff now has a new fire chief.

During a special called meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council today (Friday, November 15th) the council members went into an executive session lasting approximately 30 minutes in order to discuss the good name and character of a town employee.

After reconvening, Council Member Norman Burton made a motion to “Vacate the appointment of Bobby Stinson as fire chief in the best interests of the town.”

All of the council members voted “yes” with the exception of Jerry Sprayberry, who abstained.

Council Member Tammy Crane, then made a motion to appoint Captain Matthew Sprayberry the fire chief, for a period of 90 days; all council members voted in favor, with the exception of Jerry Sprayberry, who once again abstained.

Jerry Sprayberry is the father of Matthew Sprayberry.

In other business – Mayor Martha Baker announced that the annual revenue from alcohol sales in the town, which will go to the school system, amounted to a total of $16,356.67.

The council also voted to take part in the 2014 “Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday”.
