In high school football on Thursday night Sand Rock was the only Cherokee County team to pull out a victory in the seven team event. The Wildcats opened up the evening with a 7 to 7 draw – against cross-county rival Spring Garden.
Sand Rock’s victory came against class 4A Hokes Bluff by a final count of 6 to 3.
Class 2A #5 Fyffe posted two shutouts. The Red Devils blanked Spring Garden 27 – 0 and Cedar Bluff 28-0.
Class 3A Saks also picked up two victories. Saks claimed a 25 – 0 shutout over Cedar Bluff and followed that up with a 25 – 7 win over the Gaylesville Trojans.
The Trojans then battled Hokes Bluff before falling 14 to 7.
Over at Collinsville, Class 4A Crossville defeated the Panthers 28 – 14.
At the Field of Champions in Piedmont – the Class 3A #3 Bulldogs outdistanced 4A Jacksonville by a final score of 29 to 3.
There are still a couple of regional jamborees scheduled for tonight (Friday, August 23rd) that are sure to catch local fans attention as Class 2A #10 Woodland will travel to White Plains, while 4A #2 Oneonta heads to Death Valley to meet the Valley Cubs of Alexandria.
Class 5A Ft Payne will travel to Dade County, Georgia for their pre-season tune up game.
The regular season for Alabama high school teams begins next week.
