Some local schools were among the 124 high schools recognized on Friday at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s sixth annual Sportsmanship Banquet at the Renaissance Montgomery Convention Center.
The schools were fine and ejection free during the 2012-13 school year.
Twenty-seven schools were fine and ejection free for the first time, including Cherokee County High and Collinsville.
Collinsville was presented an al.com $1,000 Sportsmanship Grant by Alabama Media Group Vice President Michelle Holmes.
This is the 4th time making the list for Spring Garden while Sand Rock and Fort Payne have been ejection and fine free for two years.
Friday’s banquet was a highlight of the 17th annual Summer Conference and All-Star Sports Week.
Also Friday, Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association Director Alvin Briggs announced the 10 recipients of the AHSADCA Coaches’ Children Scholarships to seniors who are children of high school coaches or administrators. The 2013 recipients included Zachary Clifton from Cedar Bluff.
Twelve state coaches chosen by the AHSADCA as 2012 NFHS state coaches of the year were also honored. That list included Cedar Bluff Boys Track Coach Mark Mitchell.
The Sports Week is an event of the AHSAA and hosted by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.
