In response to complaints regarding dogs running at-large in Cedar Bluff, Mayor Martha Baker took time during a recent council meeting to reiterate provisions of the town’s Dog Ordinance, which states that a dog must not leave the owner’s property unless it is restrained.

Cedar Bluff Police Department Investigator Jason O’Neal then explained how the ordinance was enforced.

He says to speak with the dog’s owner first. If that doesn’t work, contact the police department. At that time, a report will be filled out. That report will then go to the County Courthouse and a summons will be issued to the owner.

In other action, the council unanimously voted to add Justin Miller to the Volunteer Fire Department and declared certain items owned by the town as surplus property and set minimum bids for the items.

Those items include: An HVAC unit, 7 pop-up tents, 2 boat motors, a 1-kilowatt generator, a 1996 Ford Dump Truck, 2 metal cabinets, a tool box, 3 refrigerator, a 1993 Ford Bronco, 2 electrical wires, two 5-kilowatt generators, a roll of carpet, two flood light sets, two portable air conditioners, and a tire balancer.

The council has the authority to decline any sales that do not meet the minimum bids.

The auction will be conducted on May the 18th by Mid State’s Auctioneers.
