Engineered Floors, a carpet company headed by former Shaw Industries CEO Bob Shaw, will be investing $450 million in new manufacturing facilities for Whitfield and Murray counties, bringing approximately 2,000 jobs to Northwest Georgia.
The Georgia Department of Economic Development announced the news Wednesday afternoon, and said the facilities once constructed will allow Engineered Floors to expand from 1,400 employees to 3,400. Alison Tyrer, Communications Director for State Economic Development, expects the project to have a major impact on the region.
“We’re always happy to be able to announce exciting news. 2,000 jobs in Northwest Georgia is certainly nothing to sneeze at, and that means 2,000 jobs going to Georgians who are going to be happy to have them.”
Manufacturing and distribution facilities will be built in Whitfield County while a manufacturing facility is set for Murray County.
Bob Shaw, who sold Shaw Industries to Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway in 2001 – is the chairman and CEO of Dalton-based Engineered Floors.
