Frances Ann Wright Gowen, 81, of Rome, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Gowen was born February 9, 1934 in Cherokee County, AL. She was the daughter of the late Lewis R.
Wright and the late Sarah Gossett Wright. She resided in Rome since 1949 and graduated from Coosa High School in 1950.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Thomas “Buddy” Gowen in 1999, a daughter Sandra Jean in 1974, a son Thomas Dale in 2011, and her brothers Conn and David Wright of Centre, AL.
She is survived by a daughter Tina Gowen Burkhalter, son-in-law Phillip Burkhalter, her grandson Vann and his wife Cassandra, her great grandson Phillip, her sisters Julia Coheley of Leesburg, AL and Leisa Boggs of Cedar Bluff, AL, her brothers Richard, Jim and Neil Wright of Centre, AL, her sister-in-law Martha Wright, and beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ann loved her family reunions, traveling, working in her yard when her health permitted. She enjoyed antiques and once had her own shop. Tina and Phil took her on many enjoyable trips all over the country and her grandson Vann was the light of her life.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday School Class.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 2p.m. EST at Oaknoll Chapel with The Reverend Alfred Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 p.m.
