A Piedmont man was fatally injured on Saturday night, when the ATV he was operating was struck by an SUV on Cleburne County 49.
45 year old Lonny Ray Smith was operating a Suzuki ATV, approximately five miles north of Fruithurst when he was struck by a 1999 Dodge Durango being driven by 37 year old Ricky Ladale Jenkins.
According to state troopers, Smith, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jenkins escaped injury.
That accident remains under investigation.
