Funeral will be 2pm Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Central Avenue Baptist Church, for Johnny W. Elkins, age 74 of Gadsden, who died Wednesday April 8, 2015. Reverends Alton Rosier and David Reed will officiate. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Thrasher Cemetery.
Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Sobina Elkins; brothers, Roy Jr., Ronald, William, and Charlie Elkins; and sister, Maryann Elkins.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Elkins; children, James (Sharon) Elkins of Leesburg, William Earl (Teri) Elkins of Gallant, Darrell (Johnna) Elkins of Gadsden, Brenda (Bo) Mitchell of Southside, Annette (Todd) Hare of Gadsden, and Kesha (Nick) Horne of Gadsden; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and brother, Donald Elkins.
Pallbearers will be Tyler, David, Steven, Jackie, and Darrell Elkins, Brandon Hare, Timothy Kimbrough, Nick Horne, and Andrew Lindsey.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and team members Heather Montgomery and Sharon Hicks, for their care and kindness through this difficult time.
The family will begin receiving friends 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at the residence, 1412 Jackson Ave. Gadsden, Al. 35904.
Mr. Elkins will lie in state 1hr. prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
