ROME– Eligible military families can take part in a veterans turkey giveaway in Rome. However, participants must register before arriving.

United Military Care, in partnership with Sysco, will provide one free turkey per eligible family Saturday, November 7, at the Rome Civic Center.

The city’s October 16 announcement lists distribution hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern. For readers in Alabama, that is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central.

The giveaway carries the theme “Give Thanks for Those Who Served.” Organizers require advance registration.

Register Before Making the Trip

Participants can sign up through the official turkey distribution registration form, which both the city and United Military Care link from their websites.

Then, organizers will email a registration confirmation with pickup instructions, including the location and directions. Applicants should therefore double-check their email address before submitting the form.

The form also asks participants to confirm that they can attend during the scheduled distribution hours. However, organizers will not hold turkeys or offer late pickup.

Who Can Participate?

The registration form lists veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard members, and reservists among the eligible categories.

In addition, it includes military dependents whose service member is currently deployed and veteran spouses with military ID cards.

Participants must bring appropriate identification or paperwork establishing their veteran or military affiliation. For example, the form lists a VA ID, a driver’s license with veteran status, or a DD-214.

Other listed documents include military identification, a military dependent ID, or a copy of current orders.

Anyone with questions about eligibility or documentation can contact United Military Care at 770-973-0014 before registering or traveling.

A Holiday Thank-You

The city described the giveaway as a way to thank veterans for their service while supporting their families during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, United Military Care works throughout Georgia to connect veterans and families with assistance and community resources. The nonprofit says it has served more than 25,000 veterans and family members since 2012.

For this event, however, the first step is to register and watch for the confirmation email. Then, bring the required documents during the November 7 pickup window.
