At the October 19th council meeting Clerk Jill Tidmore presented the city of Collinsville’s preliminary budget. She and Mayor Jeff Chandler clarified items such as ball field payments, insurance, and when employees will see changes in their paychecks. While the council debated postponing the budget vote, they ultimately were satisfied and passed the document as presented.
Members appointed Councilmember Donna Jones to the DeKalb-Cherokee Gas Board. She and the mayor will represent the city starting at the November 4th board meeting.
Chief David Bowen said that the fire department has been looking into a 10’ x 10’ tent. The structure would be used for events like Trunk-or-Treat or Turkey Trot, plus it might be helpful in the field. The council approved the purchase.

One of the city librarians, Shelby Simpson, addressed the group. She stated that the library is having a ten-for-a-dollar book sale to clear space. Since Thursday they have sold close to 300 books. Simpson said that library will be handing out rubber ducks and books instead of candy at the city’s Trunk-or-Treat event. The library interacted with over 250 trick-or-treaters last year.

Upcoming Collinsville events include a Boston Butt sale benefitting the fire department, Trunk-or-Treat, Turkey Trot, and the Christmas Parade, which is set for December 12th at 4:30.
