MONTGOMERY– Alabama voter registration for the Nov. 3 general election closes today, Monday, Oct. 19, Secretary of State Wes Allen announced.

Allen urged eligible residents to register and encouraged current voters to verify their registration before Election Day.

How to Register or Update Your Information

Residents can begin through the Alabama Secretary of State’s registration page. The application also allows existing voters to update their information.

To apply online, residents must have a valid Alabama driver’s license or Alabama non-driver identification card. However, submitting an application does not immediately complete registration. The county Board of Registrars must review and approve it.

Paper applications are also available through the state’s website. Residents can return completed forms in person or by mail to their county Board of Registrars. Anyone using a paper application today should contact that office about submission requirements and office hours.

Check Your Registration Before Election Day

Residents can also use the state’s VoterView tool to check their registration status and polling location.

In addition, the state provides an official directory of county Boards of Registrars. Contacts in the WEIS coverage area include:

  • Cherokee County: 256-927-5336; 260 Cedar Bluff Road, Suite 106, Centre.
  • Etowah County: 256-549-5384.
  • DeKalb County: 256-845-8598.
  • Calhoun County: 256-241-2930.

For statewide registration questions, residents can also call the Secretary of State’s Elections Division at 334-242-7210.

Eligibility and Election Day Reminders

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, live in Alabama, and turn 18 on or before Election Day. Additional eligibility rules address disqualifying felony convictions and court determinations of mental incompetence. Anyone with eligibility questions should contact election officials.

Meanwhile, the Nov. 3 election will have polling hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Alabama generally requires an approved photo ID to vote. The state’s photo voter ID page explains accepted identification, available assistance, and exceptions.
