CENTRE– The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a High Wind Warning, replacing its earlier watch.

In addition to Cherokee County, the warning covers Etowah, Calhoun, Cleburne, and Blount counties. It takes effect at 1 a.m. Saturday, October 10, and continues until 1 a.m. Sunday, October 11.

The warning issued at 9:53 a.m. Friday calls for east winds of 15 to 25 mph. Gusts could reach 40 mph.

Expected Impacts

The Weather Service warns that damaging winds will bring down trees and power lines. The agency also expects widespread power outages.

Travel will also be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Prepare Before Winds Arrive

Because wind could blow loose objects around, residents should secure outdoor items before conditions worsen. Meanwhile, continue monitoring forecasts and weather alerts for updates.
