GADSDEN– A Gadsden woman faces a felony murder charge in the death of a 12-year-old child. Authorities allege medical or physical neglect caused serious injuries that led to the child’s death.
Leslie Denise Wilson, 35, remains in jail without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing, according to WBRC’s reporting.
The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office inmate roster also confirms a murder charge and lists her booking at 4:54 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
According to WBRC, Gadsden Police initially responded to a reported natural death. However, the child’s age and circumstances prompted further investigation. The department’s Juvenile Unit and the Alabama Department of Human Resources then began investigating.
An autopsy later classified the death as a homicide, police told WBRC. Investigators also developed evidence of abuse and neglect, according to police.
Meanwhile, a criminal complaint cited by WBRC places the alleged neglect between May 1 and June 17, 2026. It alleges Wilson subjected the child to “ongoing and extreme medical and/or physical neglect causing serious physical injury.” The complaint further alleges the child died as a result.
However, police have withheld the child’s identity because of the victim’s age and the nature of the case.
Wilson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
