CENTRE– Centre Fire Rescue Chief Robert Pace led Stop the Bleed training for Georgia Northwestern Technical College nursing students. The hands-on course taught students how to control life-threatening bleeding.

According to information provided about the visit, all participating LPN students completed the course and earned Stop the Bleed certification.

In addition, Pace led an emergency management presentation on how communities prepare for and respond to crises. He also shared experiences from emergency response work.

In a thank-you letter, nursing instructor Bobbie Jo Chambers, ASN, RN, praised the practical lessons Pace brought to the classroom.

“Your presentation on Emergency Management gave our students a real-world view of how communities prepare for and respond to crises,” Chambers wrote.

She also thanked Pace for teaching skills students could use when someone is bleeding and help is still minutes away.

“Your Stop the Bleed course gave them a skill they will carry for life,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, information provided about the visit described Pace as a FEMA officer and war veteran. Chambers said his stories and experience made the lessons memorable.

Beyond the classroom instruction, students enjoyed seeing his chief’s vehicle up close. Turning on the truck’s siren became a favorite moment, according to Chambers.

Afterward, students posed with Pace beside his truck while holding Centre Fire Rescue shirts.

On behalf of the students and faculty, Chambers thanked Pace for his service. She also expressed appreciation for his work helping prepare future nurses to save lives.
