CHEROKEE COUNTY– A Gaylesville man surrendered after a four-wheeler pursuit and a standoff Friday morning, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators were following up on a case in the Broomtown community when they saw a masked man riding a four-wheeler on the road. But he fled when they tried to stop him. The pursuit then moved off the road and into a wooded area, the sheriff’s office said.
Later, the man reached a family member’s residence and forced his way inside, according to investigators. Deputies activated the Cherokee County Emergency Response Team. After several hours, the man came out voluntarily. He then surrendered to deputies without further incident.
The sheriff’s office identified him as Christopher Alan Tallent of Gaylesville. Investigators said they also found outstanding warrants for Tallent in Chattooga County, Georgia. In Cherokee County, he faces charges of second-degree burglary and attempting to elude.
The charges are allegations. Tallent is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
