WHORTON– Emergency crews freed one person from an overturned pickup Friday morning in Cherokee County’s Whorton community. The patient suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the McCord’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters received the call shortly before 5 a.m. Dispatchers had a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries and someone trapped inside. They also received a report that the pickup was smoking.

When crews arrived, they found one person trapped. McCord’s firefighters and the Cherokee County Rescue Squad worked together to free the patient. Then Atrium Health Floyd EMS took the patient to Redmond for treatment.

However, firefighters found no fire. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also responded. ALEA is investigating the crash.
