SYLVANIA– A deputy used a PIT maneuver to end a vehicle pursuit near Alabama Highway 75 and County Road 108 on Monday, Sept. 21, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

The pursuit began after officers received a lookout notice for a reckless driver heading from Jackson County toward Sylvania. The notice also described a small black car and said the driver might be under the influence of narcotics.

Sylvania police then located the car and tried to stop it, the sheriff’s office said. The driver did not stop, however. Officers later identified the driver as Kadence L. Pratt, 21, of Dutton.

During the pursuit, officers and deputies followed the car along several roads in southwest Sylvania. The sheriff’s office alleged Pratt swerved into oncoming traffic several times, putting other motorists at risk.

Near the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road 108, a deputy performed a PIT maneuver and ended the pursuit. Officers took Pratt into custody. Officers also reported finding liquid methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the car.

Pratt faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, felony attempt to elude, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and reckless endangerment, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Nick Welden also called the pursuit dangerous and said officers acted quickly to bring it to an end.

The charges are allegations. Pratt is presumed innocent unless and until a court finds Pratt guilty.
