At the September 22nd Centre City Council work session Director of Emergency Management and 911 Administrator Shawn Rogers explained the costs of the program and how each municipality is billed.
According to Rogers, there are ten dispatchers for the district, each of which answers the 911 calls. Calls are tracked from their origin to determine the billing of each municipality and town. For example, this past year 10,000 of the 35,896 emergency calls came from the city limits of Centre. The percentage of calls (27.86%) determines the percentage that is put in the next year’s contract with the city of Centre. The director pointed out that revenue from municipalities only helps pay the salaries and benefits of the employees. Equipment and technology updates are financed through the state 911 board.
Rogers asked that the council approve the 2027 fiscal contract based on the city’s percentage of calls and authorize the mayor to sign. During the meeting council members unanimously approved.
