CENTRE–City of Centre officials are clarifying the Centre camper zoning ordinance after residents raised questions about camper storage and temporary construction offices.

In a public-awareness notice, the city directed residents to Article IV, Section 9, of the ordinance.

The section allows a trailer to serve as a temporary construction office. It also permits one unoccupied camper trailer inside an accessory private garage or in a rear yard in any zoning district.

However, the camper may not exceed 10 feet in width or 25 feet in length. Residents cannot use the stored or parked camper as living quarters.

In addition, the ordinance prohibits business activities inside the camper while it remains stored or parked. Therefore, the provision does not allow someone to live in a camper simply because it sits on private property.

The city encouraged residents to review the zoning ordinance and contact City Hall with questions about specific properties or proposed uses.
