Police Chief Nathan Johnson reported to the Piedmont city council at their September 15th meeting that his department made a total of twenty-seven arrests in August. These resulted in five felony and thirty-two misdemeanor charges. Piedmont police issued thirty-eight traffic citations, worked eight traffic accidents, and filed seventy-three reports on 318 calls. Court collections for the month were $10,873 and $3,830.50 was retained for the city of Piedmont.

Fire Chief Todd Kirkland stated to council members that his department responded to ninety-one incidents. Fifty-six of those were medical while twenty-two were categorized as public service. Six calls dealt with hazardous situations, four were for fire, and three were labeled non-emergencies.

Mayor Farmer reported that the city was involved in forty-six total abatement cases, twenty-three of which were new.

Pat Brown, Director of the Piedmont Rescue Squad, told the council that his agency is looking into an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs grant. This would appropriate just south of $400,000 which would help subsidize the department.
