Railroad Work to Bring Lane Shifts and Closures to Glenn Milner Boulevard

Glenn Milner Boulevard railroad work schedule showing Rome traffic impacts from September 9 through 16.

ROME– Drivers should expect lane shifts and intersection closures along Glenn Milner Boulevard beginning Wednesday morning.

The Rome Police Department announced the traffic plan ahead of scheduled railroad work. Norfolk Southern will replace track and perform maintenance between Second Avenue and the Rome News-Tribune.

Work begins Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 a.m. Crews will close the inside lanes nearest the railroad tracks.

However, the outside lanes will remain open in both directions. Second Avenue also will remain open throughout the project.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, crews plan to close the intersections at Sixth and Eighth avenues for repairs. Officials expect Sixth Avenue to reopen before the weekend and serve as a detour around Eighth Avenue.

From Friday, Sept. 11, through Monday, Sept. 14, crews will completely close the Glenn Milner Boulevard intersection at Eighth Avenue. That closure will continue until crews complete paving Monday.

Afterward, crews will close the Spider Webb Drive railroad crossing from Monday, Sept. 14, through Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Norfolk Southern controls the schedule, according to the City of Rome’s official notice. Therefore, the announced dates and times remain subject to change.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, watch for workers, and follow all posted traffic signs.
