COLLINSVILLE – Collinsville cruised past Brindlee Mountain 49-0 in the Class 2A, Region 8 football opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Senior quarterback Mason McAteer accounted for five first-half touchdowns (3 passing, 2 rushing) as the Panthers (2-0) built a 35-0 lead at the end of the first half.
McAteer’s first touchdown came on an 8-yard run with 6:46 remaining in the first quarter. His second and third scores were touchdown passes to Noah Johnson and Gavin Lang respectively. McAteer added a 2-yard touchdown run and a second touchdown pass to Johnson to cap the first-half scoring.
Collinsville opened the third quarter with a Logan Hanson touchdown run. Following a Carson Clanton interception, Bentley Jones connected with Logan McAteer on a 4-yard touchdown pass for the final.
“The offense was doing really well the first half,” Collinsville head coach Ernie Willingham said. ”Scored almost every time we got the ball and then in the third quarter, we were able to play our change outs and they scored twice.”
Collinsville travels to Ider on Friday, Sept. 11.
