CEDAR BLUFF – The Fancy Paws Dog Beauty Pageant will take place Saturday, Sept. 5, at Cedar Bluff Park.
The family-friendly event will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. It will celebrate local dogs while supporting animals and the community.
The 20th Century Club for the Children of Cherokee County is hosting the pageant. Entry costs $10 per dog, and each dog may compete in up to five categories.
Organizers have planned 11 categories and 11 prizes. Categories include best behaved, best costume, best trick, obstacle course, best pet-and-owner look-alike, talking dog, curliest, and best overall.
First-place winners will receive prizes and goodie bags.
The Cherokee County Animal Shelter will attend with several dogs available for adoption. The animals will have an opportunity to meet potential new families throughout the event.
Residents do not need to enter a dog to attend. Shelter officials encourage visitors to meet the available animals and consider providing one with a permanent home.
Summit Sanctuary will also host a silent auction. In addition, organizers have planned activities and entertainment for the entire family.
Families may bring their dogs, children, and leashes for an afternoon of contests, prizes, and opportunities to support local animals.
