GLENCOE – Catalyst Community Church will host a free Church Safety Class on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The class will run from 8 a.m. until noon at 1707 Reid Circle. The Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department will present the training.

Organizers designed the class for church security teams, leaders, staff members, volunteers, and others who help protect congregations.

Training will cover situational awareness, prevention, security-team organization, emergency response, and preparation for critical incidents. Participants will also learn how to identify potential concerns before they develop into emergencies.

“Churches should be places where people can worship and fellowship while feeling safe and secure,” Gadsden State Police Chief Jay Freeman said.

Freeman said the class will provide practical knowledge and resources that churches can use to improve preparedness. He also emphasized the importance of communication and confident decision-making during emergencies.

The class will give security teams from across the area an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss best practices. Participants can also build stronger relationships with law enforcement and other churches.

The upcoming class continues the department’s community safety efforts. In April, WEIS reported on another free church safety and security training conference organized by Gadsden State Police.

Registration and Class Information

There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. Organizers encourage churches to register their safety teams together as soon as possible.

Organizers will provide snacks and water. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a pen and notebook.
