SUMMERVILLE – The City of Summerville is inviting local groups to enter its downtown scarecrow contest. Schools, businesses, clubs, civic groups, families, and nonprofit organizations may participate.
The contest aims to create a festive community backdrop for a month-long harvest celebration. Registration is free, and the deadline to enter is Sept. 29.
Participants may request an entry form by emailing slocklear@summervillega.org. They may also stop by Summerville City Hall.
Organizers encourage creative designs, but every entry must meet the contest rules and regulations. The city will assign each participant a downtown display location.
Contestants may deliver and build their scarecrows from Sept. 24 through Oct. 1.
First place will receive $100, while second place will receive $50. Third place will receive $25.
Organizers will announce the winners at noon during Sum Nelly.
Summerville Main Street also organizes other community events, including the city’s Spring Market Arts & Crafts Festival.
