CENTRE– A trailer loaded with hay caught fire Wednesday morning near County Road 69 and Highway 411 North.
Cherokee County 911 dispatched firefighters shortly after 10 a.m. Firefighters from Spring Creek and the Centre Fire Department brought pumpers to the scene, while Ellisville firefighters supplied a tanker.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency also responded, along with an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency trooper.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control. However, the hay continued to smolder, keeping County Road 69 blocked at Highway 411 North.

The Cherokee County Highway Department had also been called to the scene to assist with unloading the burned hay from the trailer.
The driver detached the truck from the burning trailer and moved it away from the flames. That action helped keep the fire from spreading to the truck.

Authorities at the scene said they had not determined what caused the fire.
