CENTRE– The Cherokee County Animal Shelter will host free animal law training Thursday, Aug. 13, for law enforcement and animal control officers.
The training will run from 9 a.m. until noon. It will take place at the Cherokee County Commission, 260 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
The shelter designed the course for both new and experienced officers. The program will focus on Alabama animal laws that officers often encounter in the field.
In addition, instructors will cover recent legislative changes and practical guidance for officers.
Topics will include the Alabama Rabies Code, Alabama Pet Protection Act, and Dangerous Dog Law.
The course will also address the upcoming “Beau’s Law.” According to the shelter, the law takes effect Oct. 1.
Organizers said the training will explain what officers need to know before that date.
The shelter also hopes the program will strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and animal control agencies. Organizers said a common understanding of Alabama law can improve public safety and animal welfare.
