ATTALLA AND OXFORD — State records identify medical cannabis dispensary sites planned for Attalla and Oxford. However, neither location has an announced opening date as of Monday, Aug. 10.

The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission expects more dispensaries to open during summer 2026. Its opening-announcement page still lists only the Montgomery dispensary that opened June 4.

GP6 Wellness Holds Attalla License

GP6 Wellness holds the dispensary license connected to the Attalla location. Commission records list the license as DSPY000337, issued Jan. 8.

The proposed dispensary would occupy Suites J and K at 959 Gilbert Ferry Road SE. The address is in a retail strip center near Interstate 59.

GP6 identified the site as leased space in its original commission application. The company also included local zoning authorization for the location.

The same license allows GP6 to operate sites in Athens and the Birmingham area. Each standalone dispensary licensee may operate as many as three locations in separate counties.

Construction was underway at GP6’s Birmingham-area location in June. However, the company had not announced opening dates for its Attalla or Athens sites.

RJK Holdings Plans Oxford Location

RJK Holdings AL holds license DSPY000251, which the commission also issued Jan. 8.

Commission and company records identify 1225 Snow Street as the proposed Oxford location. RJK’s other approved sites are in Mobile and Daphne.

The company’s public location page lists all three addresses but provides no opening dates or operating hours.

The Oxford City Council authorized medical cannabis businesses within the city in November 2022. The ordinance reserves final approval of business licenses and locations for the council.

Oxford also dedicated related business-license and sales-tax proceeds to the Oxford Health Care Authority. The ordinance does not establish a construction or opening timetable.

State Lists Only One Open Dispensary

The commission’s patient information page lists Attalla and Oxford among nine cities slated to receive dispensaries. Athens, Bessemer, Birmingham, Daphne, Mobile, Montgomery and Talladega are also listed.

Callie’s Apothecary at 5232 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery became Alabama’s first operating medical cannabis dispensary on June 4.

Only registered patients and caregivers with valid Alabama medical cannabis cards may enter a dispensary. Patients must receive a recommendation from a certified Alabama physician and complete the state registration process.

Alabama permits products including tablets, capsules, tinctures, topical preparations and transdermal patches. State rules prohibit raw plant material, smoking products, vaping products and cannabis-infused foods.

Licensees must also comply with the state’s dispensary regulations. Those requirements cover inspections, security, employee training, product testing and inventory tracking.

August Commission Meeting Canceled

The commission previously scheduled a meeting for Thursday, Aug. 13. Its current meeting calendar now marks that meeting as canceled.

The next commission meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

For now, the state’s general summer projection remains the only public timetable for additional dispensaries. Specific opening dates for the Attalla and Oxford locations remain unannounced.
