ST. CLAIR COUNTY– Authorities have identified Jody Stephen Landrum, 55, of Jemison, as the victim of a Saturday drowning on Logan Martin Lake.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded near Coosa Island on Saturday, Aug. 8. The agency confirmed the drowning to WBRC.
ABC 33/40 reported that the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office identified Landrum on Sunday. The coroner’s office said he was visiting relatives in the area when the drowning occurred.
The coroner’s office received a call about the incident around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. A search was underway, and authorities located Landrum’s body around that time, according to the report.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division assisted at the scene. ALEA referred questions about the investigation to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities have not disclosed what Landrum was doing immediately before he entered the water. They also have not said whether he had been swimming or boating.
Officials have not released how long Landrum was missing or the exact location near Coosa Island. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Two Other Lake Fatalities Reported This Summer
Saturday’s drowning follows two other fatal incidents on Logan Martin Lake this summer.
An 83-year-old Pell City man died following a two-vessel crash on June 25.
Authorities also recovered a 64-year-old Bessemer man on June 29. He had fallen into the water during a sailboat race the previous day.
