JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — The City of Jacksonville will bring the community together Sept. 12 for A Ride to Remember.
The free event will honor the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders who served on Sept. 11, 2001. It will also remember those who died and others whose lives were forever changed.
Activities will begin at the Jacksonville Community Center, with check-in opening at 8 a.m.
An opening program will follow at 8:30 a.m. The program will include an instrumentalist, guest speakers and a moment of silence. The ride will begin immediately afterward.
Participants will travel south along the Chief Ladiga Trail and may choose between two out-and-back routes. One route will extend 4.55 miles before returning to the Community Center. The longer option will extend 9.11 miles before turning back.
The event is free and open to the community. Everyone who registers in advance will be guaranteed an event T-shirt.
Day-of registration will also be available. T-shirts for those participants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Participants may register online through Jacksonville Parks and Recreation.
A Ride to Remember will give residents an opportunity to honor the heroes of Sept. 11 while remembering those whose lives were forever affected by the attacks.
