GADSDEN– The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation has named Tony Smith president of its Board of Directors. Meanwhile, Sheri Rollins will serve as vice president.
Smith succeeds retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Eric Crabtree. Together, Smith and Rollins will help expand scholarships, support college programs, and build community partnerships.
Smith Takes Over as Board President
Smith joined the Foundation’s Board of Directors in 2024 and most recently served as vice president. As president, he will work with Foundation directors and Gadsden State Community College leaders to increase support for students.
“I am truly excited to step into this role and serve as president of the Cardinal Foundation at such an important time for Gadsden State Community College,” Smith said. “Every day, our college opens doors, helping people take that next step toward a better future.”
In addition, Smith said the college serves students at every stage of life. Those students include high schoolers earning dual enrollment credits and adults seeking workforce training, new careers, or university transfer opportunities.
“Through the support of donors and community partners, the Cardinal Foundation helps remove barriers and open doors, providing scholarships, strengthening programs, and ensuring that opportunity is within reach for students of all ages and backgrounds,” Smith said.
Smith serves as Manager of Customer Service for Etowah and Blount Counties for Alabama Power Company, where he has worked since 1996. Moreover, his community service includes positions with the Etowah Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Etowah County, and the Etowah County Personnel Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Challenger Learning Center.
Rollins Named Vice President
Rollins has served as District Director for Congressman Mike Rogers since 2007. Her career includes more than 35 years of experience in public service, constituent relations, and community engagement.
In her current role, Rollins manages Rogers’ two district offices and oversees six district employees. She also works with elected officials, business leaders, and community organizations across Alabama’s Third Congressional District.
“I am honored to serve as vice president of the Cardinal Foundation and to support Gadsden State Community College’s mission of transforming lives through education,” Rollins said. “I look forward to working with Tony, the Foundation Board, and our community partners to expand opportunities for students and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.”
Hillary Folsom, Gadsden State’s director of Advancement and Alumni Relations, said Smith and Rollins bring strong leadership and community relationships. In addition, she noted their shared commitment to student success.
“Their experience and commitment to serving our region will help the Cardinal Foundation continue building partnerships that expand educational opportunities, strengthen our workforce, and create a lasting impact for our students,” Folsom said.
Foundation Recognizes Crabtree’s Service
The Foundation also thanked Crabtree for his leadership and service as board president. During his tenure, the organization continued supporting student success and other Foundation efforts at Gadsden State.
The Cardinal Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the college through private gifts and community partnerships. Through that support, the Foundation provides scholarships, strengthens college programs, funds special projects, and helps students overcome financial barriers.
