At their July 27th meeting, the Cherokee County Commission voted to move two voting precinct locations. Precinct 7 residents who had been casting their ballots at Daniel’s Chapel will now vote at Little River Baptist Church. Chairman Tim Burgess explained in the planning session that the privately owned chapel is undergoing some construction. Burgess had visited Little River Baptist and reported that the church has ample space to conduct voting processes.
The other change comes in Precinct 13, where residents will cast their votes at Ebenezer Methodist Church instead of at Macedonia Baptist. Voting used to be held at Ebenezer until their Fellowship Hall burned in November 2019. Macedonia has since filled in as the precinct location. With Ebenezer having rebuilt their Fellowship Hall, the voting location will return there.
The commission approved two items concerning the animal shelter. They granted a 90-day extension to the shelter construction project. It was explained in the planning session that weather and other complications had put the project behind schedule.
Under a separate contract, members voted to approve a contract with Southern Data Automation, Inc. for the shelter’s camera system.
The commission also approved a different contract with Southern Data, one for network security measures in the amount of $881.50 per month.
In old business, Chairman Tim Burgess announced that the appointment of a position on the Cherokee County Health Care Authority will take place at the next meeting. This is a six-year unexpired term that will end in December 2026. Submittal of resumes, letters, etc…will be accepted through Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The commission also approved the job posting for a Revenue Commission Clerk Grade 5, Step 1 position, replacing an outgoing employee.
The members of the commission accepted a petition to vacate a portion of Cherokee County Road 387 and set a public hearing on the matter for Monday, September 14, 2026.
The commission also approved the FAA Airport Improvement Program Grant Agreement and authorized the chairman and county attorney to sign. The project will be for sealing cracks and re-marking the airport runway.
The members approved a budget item, awarding the bid for two 2026 or 2027 Chevrolet Tahoes to Buster Miles Chevrolet for $104,978. Whether the vehicles will be ’26 or ’27 models depends on availability.
The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be August 10th at 10:00 am.
