GADSDEN– The Gadsden Slide the City event will bring a 1,000-foot water slide and several traffic changes to South Third Street this weekend.
The City of Gadsden will hold its Slide the City Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26. The attraction will stretch along South Third Street near Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Saturday’s event will run from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday’s hours will be noon until 7 p.m. The final one-hour session will begin at 6 p.m. each day.
Participants will receive unlimited rides during their selected one-hour session. The event will also provide each participant with a water tube.
South Third Street Closure
The city will close South Third Street beginning at 2 p.m. Friday. The road should reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Motorists who are not attending the event or visiting nearby businesses should avoid South Third Street and the surrounding area. The city expects the additional traffic to create congestion throughout the weekend.
The closure will not block emergency room access to Riverview Regional Medical Center. The city’s event map identifies a separate access point for emergency traffic.
Parking and Check-In Information
Attendees may park in the lower parking lot at Riverview Regional Medical Center. However, only southbound traffic traveling on Albert Rains Boulevard may enter the lot.
Additional parking will be available at Moragne Park and other nearby lots. Moragne Avenue will remain open in both directions for traffic entering and leaving the parking area.
Drivers leaving the event cannot turn left onto U.S. Highway 411 North. All exiting traffic must turn right.
The event check-in area will be located at the South Third Street entrance to Riverview’s lower parking lot. Participants may reach the check-in area only on foot.
The event map also identifies designated restrooms, food trucks, viewing areas, float stations, and an emergency services area.
Event Information
The City of Gadsden describes Slide the City as one of its largest Back-to-School celebrations. The attraction will offer families one final summer event before students return to school.
Organizers ask participants to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled session. No changing areas will be available, so participants should arrive dressed and ready to slide.
The event will continue during light rain. However, organizers may suspend operations because of lightning, strong winds, or other unsafe conditions. Tickets and additional event information are available through the city’s official ticket page.
