WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt voted Wednesday in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027.
The House approved H.R. 8800 by a vote of 216-212. The official roll-call lists Aderholt, a Republican representing Alabama’s 4th Congressional District, among the members who voted for the legislation. The House Clerk recorded 216 votes in favor, 212 against, and three members not voting.
House Advances Annual Defense Policy Bill
The National Defense Authorization Act establishes defense policy and authorizes spending levels for military programs. The measure covers military activities, construction, personnel levels, and Department of Energy defense programs.
The House Armed Services Committee advanced H.R. 8800 following its June markup. Afterward, the House Rules Committee prepared the legislation for floor consideration.
Although the House approved the bill, it has not yet become law. The Senate must also act on defense authorization legislation before Congress sends a final version to the president.
Aderholt Highlights Military Pay and Readiness
Aderholt said the FY27 NDAA would strengthen the nation’s defense industrial base, protect military supply chains, and improve military readiness.
According to Aderholt, the proposal represents a 28% year-over-year increase in defense investment. He said the increase supports President Donald Trump’s national security agenda and the administration’s “peace through strength” policy.
Aderholt also highlighted provisions affecting service members and their families. He said the legislation supports pay raises ranging from 5% to 7%.
In addition, Aderholt said the measure would improve military housing, strengthen education benefits, and expand access to childcare. The congressman argued that those investments would improve the quality of life for military families.
“Peace through strength starts in our factories, our depots, and our shipyards,” Aderholt said.
The congressman also said the legislation would strengthen military training, improve readiness, and restore domestic defense manufacturing. Furthermore, he cited efforts to secure supply chains and expand the nation’s ability to produce military equipment.
Language Supports Maxwell Air Force Base
Aderholt also highlighted bipartisan language concerning Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery.
According to his office, the language prioritizes funding to improve strategic training, education, and simulation capabilities at the installation. Aderholt said those investments would help develop a more prepared and capable military force.
The FY27 NDAA now moves forward in the legislative process following the House vote.
