ALEXANDRIA— The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating an Anniston man wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Monday evening in Alexandria.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Tavion Harris, 18, of Anniston, who is wanted on a charge of robbery involving a deadly weapon.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, to a reported robbery at a business located on Big Valley Drive in Alexandria.
Investigators said a father and son told deputies they had arranged to meet Harris in the grocery store parking lot to purchase a cell phone.
According to the victims, they exited their vehicle and approached Harris’ vehicle to verify the agreed-upon purchase price. Harris reportedly stated the phone would cost $500 and extended his hand to receive payment.
The younger victim gave Harris $170 and advised that the remainder of the money would be paid after receiving the phone, according to authorities.
Investigators said Harris then allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at the younger victim while demanding the remaining money. The suspect also reportedly ordered the victim to get into his vehicle.
The victim appeared to comply before running back toward his father, who remained seated inside their vehicle.
Authorities said Harris and two unidentified individuals who were also inside the suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed in the direction of Anniston.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Harris is the only suspect who has been identified in the case. Investigators continue working to identify the two additional occupants and say the investigation remains active.
Anyone with information regarding the incident, the whereabouts of Harris, or the identities of the individuals who fled the scene with him is encouraged to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 236-6600.
Authorities urge anyone with information not to approach Harris and instead contact law enforcement immediately.
