WEIS Radio Welcomes New Intern Shemar Mays

CENTRE— WEIS Radio is pleased to welcome Shemar Mays as the station’s newest intern. Mays will be assisting with news coverage, sports coverage, and a variety of other station duties while gaining valuable hands-on broadcasting experience as he continues his education at Jacksonville State University.

Originally from Weaver, Alabama, Mays is pursuing a degree in Communications with a concentration in Sports Media and Analytics and a minor in Sports Management. His internship with WEIS Radio represents another step toward achieving his long-term goal of working professionally in sports broadcasting.

Sports have played a significant role in Mays’ life from an early age. His passion for athletics and the stories surrounding them inspired him to pursue a career in sports media, where he can combine his interests in communication, broadcasting, and storytelling.

While attending Jacksonville State University, Mays has gained practical experience through his work with 91.9 WLJS, where he hosts a sports radio program titled “Hoops, Hits & Huddles.” The show features discussions on a wide range of topics from across the sports world, including breaking news, game analysis, player performances, and current developments in athletics. Through hosting the program, Mays has developed skills in broadcasting, public speaking, content creation, and audience engagement while gaining valuable real-world experience in the media field.

In addition to his academic and broadcasting pursuits, Mays credits his family for providing encouragement and support throughout his educational journey. He is married to his wife, Kaylie, who has been a strong source of motivation as he works toward his career goals.

Mays said he is committed to continuing to learn, gain experience, and grow as a communicator while pursuing opportunities in sports media. His goal is to build a career that allows him to inform, entertain, and connect with audiences through sports broadcasting.

As part of his internship, Mays will be working alongside the WEIS Radio team, assisting with local news coverage, sports reporting, community events, and various other station operations. The internship will provide him with additional opportunities to expand his broadcasting knowledge and gain practical experience in multiple areas of radio operations.

WEIS Radio is excited to have Mays join the staff and looks forward to watching him develop his skills and contribute to the station’s ongoing commitment to serving listeners throughout Cherokee County and the surrounding region.

Listeners may see Mays covering local events, sporting contests, and community activities in the coming months. If you see him out and about, be sure to say hello and help welcome him to the WEIS Radio family.
