Dogtown VFD Captures Top Honors at State Firefighter Competition

FORT PAYNE-Members of Dogtown Fire Department traveled this past weekend to Colbert County to participate in the 49th Annual Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments Conference and Firefighter Competition.

Chief Jon Burt said he is proud of the department’s members and the time and effort they have dedicated to building competitive teams and strengthening overall performance.

Dogtown entered two teams in this year’s competition to give newer members experience and insight into how the event is conducted. A total of seven teams from across Alabama competed, including Elkmont, Nitrate City, Billingsley, Seven Hill, New Bethel, Dogtown Team 1, and Dogtown Team 2.

All teams were noted for strong performances and sportsmanship throughout the event.

When the competition concluded, Dogtown Team 1 earned first place in every event and secured first place overall.

Chief Burt noted that anticipation is already building for next year’s 50th anniversary competition, with several departments expected to contend for the top spot.

He closed by thanking all Dogtown Fire members for their continued service, dedication, and commitment to the department and the community.

DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency also congratulated all participating departments for their efforts and sportsmanship during the competition, extending special congratulations to Dogtown Team 1 on their overall championship performance. Officials said the achievement reflects the training, dedication, and professionalism demonstrated by volunteer firefighters across the county and state, and expressed appreciation for their continued service and commitment to protecting their communities.
