Voters across Cherokee County and Alabama will return to the polls today, Tuesday, June 16, for the Alabama Primary Runoff Election.
Polling locations throughout Cherokee County opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballots.
Several statewide Republican and Democratic runoff races will be decided, including contests for the U.S. Senate, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and Public Service Commission.
Republican voters will choose between Jared Hudson and Barry Moore for the U.S. Senate nomination. Democratic voters will select either Dakarai Larriett or Everett Wess in their party’s U.S. Senate runoff.
The Republican runoff for Lieutenant Governor features Wes Allen and John Wahl, while the Republican Attorney General race pits Jay Mitchell against Katherine Robertson.
Republican voters will also decide the nomination for Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries between Corey Hill and Christina Woerner McInnis. In the Public Service Commission Place No. 2 runoff, Republican voters will choose between Chris Beeker and Jim “Zig” Zeigler.
Election officials remind voters to bring a valid photo ID when they go to the polls.
Results from the runoff election will determine which candidates advance to the November General Election.
