Attalla City Schools Receives Grant to Provide Full-Time Mental Health Professional for Students

ATTALLA — Attalla City Schools has announced that a collaborative grant application submitted in partnership with MAXimizing Mental Health, Inc. has been selected for funding, bringing expanded mental health services to students at Etowah Middle School and Etowah High School.

The grant will fund a full-time licensed mental health professional who will serve students at both schools for the next five years. Through the program, students will have access to free mental health services throughout the year, including during the summer months.

According to Attalla City Schools, the initiative reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to supporting the overall well-being of students and ensuring they have access to resources that help them succeed both academically and personally.

MAXimizing Mental Health, Inc. said the partnership began after Superintendent Matt Miller assumed leadership of the school system. The organization approached Attalla City Schools about the possibility of working together to expand mental health services, and district leaders supported efforts to pursue grant funding on behalf of students and families.

The organization said it recently received notification that the grant had been selected for funding, securing five years of services through the placement of a licensed mental health professional at Etowah Middle School and Etowah High School.

School officials and representatives from MAXimizing Mental Health expressed gratitude for the opportunity and for those who helped make the funding possible. They noted that the program will provide students with access to mental health support year-round, helping address needs both inside and outside the classroom.

Attalla City Schools said additional information about the program and its implementation will be shared as plans move forward.
