LEESBURG-  The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Officer Safety Awareness Training program at its training center, bringing together law enforcement officers from multiple agencies across Alabama for specialized instruction focused on officer safety.

The training, held Thursday, was led by FBI Law Enforcement Operations Specialist Kevin Harris and focused on enhancing officer preparedness through real-world scenarios and safety strategies officers may encounter while serving in the line of duty.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the program provided participating officers with additional tools and training designed to improve situational awareness and response during potentially dangerous encounters.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver said continued professional training remains a critical priority for law enforcement agencies.

“Training is one of the most important investments we can make in law enforcement,” Shaver said. “We are committed to making sure our deputies have access to quality training that helps keep them and our community safe.”

Shaver also said the sheriff’s office takes pride in opening its training facility to outside agencies in an effort to support continued education and collaboration among officers statewide.

“We are also proud to open our training center to other agencies, so officers across the state can continue learning and preparing for the challenges they face every day,” he said.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said hosting programs such as the FBI’s Officer Safety Awareness Training reflects its ongoing commitment to officer development, public safety, and interagency cooperation.
