Attalla Residents Report Loud Explosion; Officials Say Beaver Dam Removal to Blame

ATTALLA — A loud explosion reported across multiple areas of Attalla Wednesday evening prompted concern among residents after many said the blast was powerful enough to shake homes.

Numerous residents took to social media to discuss the incident, with reports indicating the noise was heard in several communities, including Camp Sibert, Stowers Hill, and other areas throughout the city. Some residents described the explosion as strong enough to rattle windows and shake houses.

In response to growing concerns, the City of Attalla acknowledged the reports Wednesday night, stating that Mayor Larry Means was aware of the incident and personally experienced the shaking from his home in the Camp Sibert area.

According to city officials, the Attalla Police Department investigated the situation and determined that the disturbance was caused by a resident who had hired a company to remove a beaver dam using legal explosives.

City officials said those involved were instructed to immediately stop the activity. Authorities indicated they plan to speak with the resident and company regarding the situation and discuss appropriate methods for removing beaver dams moving forward.

The City of Attalla thanked residents for their calls and concerns as officials worked to determine the source of the explosion.
