Anniston Fire Department Begins Annual Fire Hydrant Testing Across City

ANNISTON — The Anniston Fire Department has begun its annual fire hydrant testing program, with inspections scheduled to continue throughout the city through June 30.

According to city officials, hydrant testing officially began Monday, May 18, and is part of the department’s routine efforts to ensure emergency equipment remains operational and ready for use when needed.

The annual inspections are conducted to verify that fire hydrants across Anniston are functioning properly and capable of providing reliable water flow during emergency situations, including residential and commercial fires.

Fire department officials say regular hydrant testing plays a critical role in maintaining public safety while also helping the city preserve its strong Insurance Services Office, or ISO, rating. A favorable ISO rating can positively impact insurance costs for homeowners and businesses by helping support lower property insurance premiums.

During the testing period, residents may notice fire crews working in neighborhoods throughout the city as hydrants are inspected and evaluated.

City officials expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding as crews complete the work, noting that the inspections are an important part of maintaining emergency preparedness and protecting the community.
