Gadsden State Police Department Welcomes New Part-Time Officer Katie Zaner

GADSDEN — The Gadsden State Community College Police/Public Safety Department has announced the addition of its newest part-time officer, Katie Zaner.

According to information released by the Gadsden State Police Department, Zaner began her law enforcement career in 2020 while continuing to pursue higher education and professional development.

During her time working with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Zaner earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University. She later completed a Master of Science degree from Jacksonville State University and currently serves full-time with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

In announcing the appointment, Gadsden State officials expressed enthusiasm about the experience and dedication Zaner brings to the department and the college community.

Outside of her law enforcement career, Zaner enjoys spending time with her husband, Perry, their son and daughter, and their two granddaughters. She also remains active in outdoor and recreational activities. During the summer months, she assists with training SCUBA divers as a NAUI Divemaster and enjoys cycling. In the winter, her family spends time skiing, while year-round they enjoy traveling throughout the United States and internationally.

Zaner said she is excited to begin serving as an officer with the Gadsden State Community College Police Department.

Gadsden State Police/Public Safety officials also welcomed Zaner to the department, saying they look forward to the positive impact she will have across the college’s campuses and throughout the community.
