Marshall County Man Sentenced to Life Plus 10 Years in Murder and Abuse of Corpse Case

MARSHALL COUNTY — A Marshall County man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 10 years following his conviction on charges of murder and abuse of a corpse.

Marshall County Circuit Judge Chris Abel handed down the sentence after a jury earlier this year found Colt Carroll, 36, of Indiana, guilty in the death of his girlfriend, Faleisha Thompson.

According to evidence presented at trial, Carroll brutally beat and strangled Thompson in October 2023 before leaving her body in a ditch. At the time of the incident, both Carroll and Thompson were living in Union Grove.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Ed Kellett and District Attorney Jennifer Bray.

Following sentencing, District Attorney Bray expressed appreciation for the court’s handling of the case and emphasized the importance of accountability in violent crime convictions, noting that the sentence allows the victim’s family a step toward closure. Bray also extended condolences and continued prayers for Thompson’s family, including her parents and daughters.

The investigation was conducted by the Guntersville Police Department, with assistance from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office. Officials credited a thorough and detailed investigation for helping secure the conviction.

District Attorney Bray also specifically recognized Guntersville Police Department Deputy Chief John East, who served as lead investigator on the case.
