Spring Garden, Gaylesville open Class 1A, Area 12 softball tournament

JACKSONVILLE – Kylie Bates went 2-for-4 with a home run. She scored two runs and had two RBIs in leading the Spring Garden Lady Panthers to a 5-2 win over Gaylesville in the Class 1A, Area 12 softball tournament at Henry Farm Park in Jacksonville on Monday.

Addie Word also homered for the Lady Panthers (11-19). She also drove in a pair of runs. Maya Jennings, Olivia Messer, Ellie Miller, and Hayden Parris each contributed a hit. Parris scored a run. Lleyton Carroll walked and scored a run.

Kendall Birchfield picked up the win in the circle. She went the distance, giving up two earned runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Lydia Reynolds and Makenlee Young both had a hit and scored a run for Gaylesville. Young also walked. Kya Green had the other Lady Trojan hit.

Kylie Canada had a RBI. Chloe Collins and Adalyn Lusk both drew a walk.

Reynolds suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Spring Garden advances to the winners bracket and will take on Jacksonville Christian on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Gaylesville rebounded to take an 18-3 victory over Coosa Christian in an elimination game on Monday. The Lady Trojans scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and eight more in the third for the final.

Reynolds and Canada both had a pair of hits for the Lady Trojans (8-12). Reynolds scored twice and drove in three runs. Canada scored once and also drove in three runs.

Young collected a hit, two walks, a run, and two RBIs. Isabella Grande contributed a hit, a run, and a RBI. Bayleigh Ratliff walked, scored twice, and had a RBI. Lusk walked and scored twice. Charlee Sentell walked, scored a run, and had a RBI. Taylee Keith walked and scored a run.

Young earned the win after tossing all three innings. She allowed three earned runs on a hit with three walks and six strikeouts.

Gaylesville awaits the loser between Spring Garden and Jacksonville Christian on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
