COLLINSVILLE – Collinsville got stellar pitching performances from Gavin Lang and Mason McAteer and plenty of offense in its Class 3A baseball playoff series sweep of Colbert Heights on Friday. The scores were 17-1 and 11-1.
In game one, Lang tossed a one-hitter, allowing an unearned run with no walks and 12 strikeouts in five innings. He also led the fifth-ranked Panthers (24-5) at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.
Noah Johnson went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and three RBIs. Colton Pettus was 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs. Jacob Niles also went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs, and four RBIs. Jeremiah Killian was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and three RBIs.
Brantley Daugherty and Logan McAteer both tripled. Daugherty also drew a walk, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs. McAteer scored a run. Sylas Adams collected a hit, two walks, and two runs.
Mason McAteer also walked twice and scored a run. Bronner Jones walked, scored a run, and had a RBI.
In game two, Mason McAteer allowed just two hits and no earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and a RBI.
Lang went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs. Jones was also 2-for-3 with a run.
Killian homered and drove in three runs. Niles doubled, scored a run, and had three RBIs. Johnson doubled, and Adams came away with a hit, a walk, and two runs.
Daugherty walked twice and scored a run. Logan McAteer also scored a run.
Collinsville advances to the second round and will travel to No. 10 Elkmont on Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
