Sand Rock softball’s late rally falls short at Piedmont

PIEDMONT – Sand Rock scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning but fell a run short at Piedmont in softball action on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs held on for a 9-8 victory.

Amarae Champion went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs (14-14-2). Ellie Tolbert homered and drove in a pair of runs. Kaylie Wood delivered a hit and two RBIs. Anna Hase finished with a hit and a RBI.

Tolbert earned the win in the circle. She allowed two hits and had seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Emma Sipsy led the Lady Wildcats (19-15) with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate. She had two doubles, two runs, and three RBIs. Madison Walker went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run, and a RBI.

Macy Martin doubled, scored a run, and had a RBI. Taylyn Warren doubled and drove in a run.

Aubie Camp had a hit, a walk, and two runs. Molly Grace Lay had a hit, a walk, and a run. Amelia Ford had a hit and a run. Kinzlee Peek had a hit and a walk.

Sipsy tossed three innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Martin also worked three innings and allowed no earned runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Sand Rock hosts Spring Garden on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Piedmont is at Weaver on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
