Spring Garden splits baseball doubleheader with Pleasant Valley

SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Panthers saw their eight-game winning streak snapped on Saturday after splitting a doubleheader with Class 2A, No. 8 Pleasant Valley on Saturday. They lost the first game 3-2, but rebounded to earn a 5-1 victory in the second.

In the first game, Clayton Sadler went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run. Brady Ruark was 1-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Joel Hunter was 1-for-4 with a run. Shawn Carnes went 1-for-3.

Zane Edwards walked twice. Ben Baker and Dawson Ellzey both drew a walk.

Baker suffered the loss after working six innings. He gave up an earned run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Brody Bostick tossed an inning of no-hit ball.

In the second game, Sadler earned the complete-game win. He allowed an unearned run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Edwards went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs, and a RBI. Hunter was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs. Ruark went 1-for-4 with a RBI. Ellzey was 1-for-2.

Hayes Guthrie walked twice. Baker walked once, and Cam Cade scored a run.

Spring Garden (15-11) hosts Wellborn on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
