Sand Rock baseball clinches playoff berth with doubleheader sweep of Gaston

SAND ROCK – After falling 4-3 in their Class 2A, Area 13 baseball series opener with Gaston on Tuesday, the Sand Rock Wildcats swept the Bulldogs on Thursday to clinch their first playoff berth since 2017. Thursday’s scores were 6-2 and 8-2.

In Thursday’s first game, Bailey Martin went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a walk, a run, and two RBIs. Ezra Robison was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Brycen Murphy also went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Cooper Tucker was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run, and a RBI. Isaiah Lewis also went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Morgan Tucker was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Lucas Morgan also went 1-for-3 and Lathan Amos walked.

Robison earned the complete game win. He allowed an earned run on seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

In the second game, Murphy went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, a walk, a run, and four RBIs. Martin was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBIs.

Ryker Woodall went 1-for-2 with three walks, a run, and a RBI. Morgan Tucker was 1-for-3 with two walks. Nick Clanton went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Jack Dutton was 1-for-1 with a run and Cooper Tucker went 1-for-4. Lewis and Grayson Layne both walked.

Morgan earned the win after working six innings. He gave up two unearned runs on two hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Clanton tossed an inning of no-hit ball with a pair strikeouts.

Sand Rock (7-17) hosts Geraldine on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
