Eight-run first inning propels Spring Garden baseball past Jacksonville Christian

SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Panthers scored eight first-inning runs and went on to take a 16-6 area baseball win over Jacksonville Christian in five innings on Tuesday.

The Panthers (11-10) pounded out 14 hits in the game. Ben Baker and Dawson Ellzey led the offensive charge with three hits apiece. Baker scored two runs and drove in three. Ellzey scored three runs.

Joel Hunter went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and a RBI. Zane Edwards was 2-for-3 with three runs and a RBI.

Hays Guthrie tripled, scored two runs, and drove in two. Clayton Sadler doubled, scored a run, and had four RBIs. Brady Ruark and Eli Bates both had a hit and scored a run. Ruark also had a RBI and Bates drove in a pair of runs.

Baker worked two innings on the mound and surrendered two earned runs on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Brody Bostick tossed three innings and gave up three unearned runs on a pair of hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

The two teams finish their series in Jacksonville on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
